It was weird to move back to my hometown.
Even if it was temporary, I still felt this sense of history that was inescapable.
So much had happened in my life since I left this town for the rest of my adult life. Sure, I visited but it was always brief as I was so focused on career. But now, I’m looking after dad during the end of his life. Thanks to marijuana, dad’s last days are made so much more comfortable. The irony that he’s using marijuana is not lost on either of us. This was the guy that threatened me intensely when it came to my recreational marijuana use in college. That did nothing accept keep me from ever having him know about it. But cancer came for dad and the doctor recommended indica strains to help with the chemo. Of course, the benefits of that medical marijuana were great and dad enjoyed the calm he got from it along with the reduction in nausea. Still, fighting cancer in your 80’s isn’t easy and that battle is lost. Yet, dad relies on both sativa and indica to help relieve his pain. But there are now other meds being introduced now that he is coming to the end of his life. Still though, he really enjoys sharing some sativa strains with me in the evening. It’s sort of like the cold beer he can’t stomach any longer. And while it’s so strange to be back here, I’m so glad that I am. However, I’m even more grateful that medical marijuana is legal. It’s a comfort both to dad and myself as we head toward the unknown together.
